*None of the pictures I took really shouts "Shanghai!" when you look at them. I kind of just took whatever I found interesting.*
Over the weekend, I visited Shanghai. It's a place that means a lot to me; I spent three years there, met some awesome teachers and made some life-long friends.
The city hasn't changed that much. Skyscrapers, clamor, semi-gray skies all felt so familiar. After arriving at the airport, I took the maglev to find Audrey, my friend from St. George's. I stayed at her place, and her family was more hospitable than I could ever ask for.
I went to visit my old school Dulwich College Shanghai. It was a pity that the guards refused to let me in, so I could only take a picture here.
Many good memories flooded back...
I missed the amazing music department, my avant-garde graphic design teacher Mr. McGrath.
I even remembered being followed by a grumpy English lady because I didn't tie my hair up, then I ended up cutting my hair so short that they couldn't tell me to tie it again.
I missed our extensive study-leave, when we ate so much Xiao Long Bao.
Now we're all over the place - Canada, UK, America, Switzerland (you lonely one), but I love how we always meet up during summer.
Hopefully someday we can still do a graduation trip for me :) I'm still thinking about Okinawa.
Some shots I took at 田子坊 (Tian Zi Fang).
A really nice Italian restaurant that my friend Vince took me, located in the French Concession area.
The Waterhouse, a boutique hotel located near Huangpu River. It was originally a warehouse, and now it is a really nice hotel. I like the rusty design (or was it unintentional?) on the hotel surface.
Grungy hotel lobby. That sir right there didn't look so amused. I'm just a girl who likes cool designs, and I'm definitely not using this for any commercial purposes.
Audrey's mom is super stylish. That's her hat right there.
Gourmet served at the hotel's restaurant. Truly mouthfuls of wonder...Shanghai surely has amazing western food.
This is the decoration at a restaurant called 人間 (ren jian), which literally means "Earth", or "the world". It's such an interesting restaurant; you have to enter a password to enter the restaurant. Food there was great too. A huge thank you to Audrey's family for taking me to such awesome restaurants!
Again, it's great to revisit Shanghai. It was a really short stay, but I recollected many good things!
-Veronica.
