Internship Day 2.

The second day of my intern was pretty amazing. Mr. Lee came, and he gave me an overview of my time at his company. He's a really interesting person with many innovative ideas (he showed me his sketch book), and that's probably why his company is doing really well. He also explained their "design process" - from observing, documenting all the way to creating the final display/presentation. It's not too different from what I do at school, but having to meet strict deadlines must be a lot more strenuous.

I had the opportunity to somewhat take part in a case that they were in charged of. It was a banquet for Hennessy at Grant Hyatt Taipei. Designers at TaiHoo came up with the entire design for the layout of the event.
The entrance.
The walls inside were covered with the same purple wallpapers. Initially, I thought the purple was slightly too vibrant, but it looked just right when the lights were dimmed and the candles were lit.
The words on the wallpaper were Photoshopped, creating a high-relief effect. The words really looked as if they pop out from the surface when the lights were dimmed.
I believe they called this the "photo-taking area", where guests could take pictures with promotion girls. Man, those girls made me so self-conscious - all were so pale and skinny. I had to sit with them for a good amount of time...
Chilling before the event.
Purple, silk-like fabric across the ceiling.

The decorations on the table really intrigued me. Mr. Lee told me to observe the details, and he also explained how certain things were put together.
I liked the rose petals on the table, pretty romantic.
This was pretty neat. They bought these little LED lights from IKEA, and they put them under the transparent boxes that the spirit bottles stood on.
As you can see, the bottle was illuminated from the bottom. Cheap and efficient...very clever.
Cool bottle case at the entrance. Made with acrylic, with a mirror on the back surface.
I really didn't help much besides setting up the candles and lighting them up. It was my first time using a lighter...so that's an improvement. Nevertheless, the experience was priceless. I came to understand that the design company is in charged of basically everything - from the design, materials, set up...it's an incredible amount of work.  At the studio, Mr. Lee showed me their 3D models of the layout on his computer, so it was really cool to see the design came to life.

I got home at 8pm, but it was worth it. I had a great day :)
